Excellent article, Claire, as you know these deeper issues will be the purview of experts in the field, and what we’re solving with ULURU. Currently, these big tech teaching solutions are similar to what’s already existed in the past with Edtech personalization tools. Additionally, the meta cognition and self-awareness needs a deft hand and extensive knowledge of what works in the field, before it’s digitized.
Super interesting to see this! I wonder if this is potentially pointing in the direction that innovation in education might happen primarily at the "Model Layer" (i'm going to call it that) more so than the layer above. I wonder if the vast resources of companies like OpenAI spent on developing great education focused tools outpace the layer above... we'll see.
I think there's still plenty of opportunity for EdTech companies to build on top of the big models, but this is an example of how the education innovation could come directly from the big models/companies themselves.
I tested it out too - you can read my take on it here in my LinkedIn post: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/maireadpratschke_chatgpt-studymode-test-activity-7356054165376143361-wMNW?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_ios&rcm=ACoAACfKd1oBvX4XWN6c4jewuIP_XxXzAHYG3IQ
Love all the points you mention about the areas where it can improve. Very insightful.
I myself get bugged with the "sycophancy" you mentioned about ChatGPT. It doesnt feel accurate or genuine.
