General 🚀
ChatGPT can now see, hear, and speak: The updated features enable users to interact conversationally with ChatGPT and present images to receive assistance. The capabilities related to image processing are facilitated by the multimodal GPT-4V (GPT-4 with Vision). The ultimate goal, according to some researchers, is to create an AI capable of processing information in all the ways a human can.
Zuckerberg announces Meta AI at their annual Connect conference: this includes new AI experiences across their family of apps and devices. They are introducing Meta AI, an advanced conversational assistant that’s available on WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram. They are also launching 28 more AIs in beta, with unique interests and personalities. Some are played by cultural icons and influencers, including Snoop Dogg, Tom Brady, Kendall Jenner, and Naomi Osaka.
Spotify pilots Voice Translation for podcasts: AI-powered podcast translations in the podcaster’s original voice while keeping the speaker’s distinctive speech characteristics. In other words, Spotify can now clone podcasters’ voices and automatically create foreign-language versions of their shows.
Microsoft Announces Copilot, your everyday AI companion: Copilot will uniquely incorporate the context and intelligence of the web, your work data and what you are doing in the moment on your PC to provide better assistance – with your privacy and security at the forefront.
Mistral AI releases Mistral 7B: their first 7B-parameter model, which outperforms all currently available open models up to 13B parameters on all standard English and code benchmarks.
Amazon will invest up to $4B in Anthropic: Anthropic will utilize Amazon’s specialized chips and cloud services to develop and launch its AI software. This investment further intensifies the competition with other major technology companies in this rapidly expanding sector.
Be My Eyes’ AI assistant, powered by GPT-4, is rolling out to hundreds of thousands of users: Be My AI allows users to receive detailed descriptions of pictures they take, with the possibility to chat and ask further questions about the pictures. It is particularly useful for quick visual assistance, offering responses in 29 languages, for deaf-blind and visually impaired users.
New WHOOP Coach Powered by OpenAI: the first wearable to deliver highly individualized health and fitness performance coaching on demand. It can provide bespoke training plans and recommendations, sift through your data points for insights, give detailed comparisons to people like you, etc.
OpenAI Seeks New Valuation of Up to $90B in Sale of Existing Shares: the potential sale would value startup at roughly triple where it was set earlier this year ($29B).

Elicit raises a $9M Seed: Elicit is an AI research assistant that helps researchers figure out what’s true and make better decisions, starting with common research tasks like literature review.

Corti, an AI ‘co-pilot’ for healthcare clinicians, raises $60M: it works with 100M patients a year, where it is getting used 150K times a day. Its assistant covers a number of areas: triaging during a patient interaction, documenting that whole interaction including with the administrative coding that an institution might be using, providing analysis of that interaction to give steers on decisions, sometimes giving “second opinions”.

Regulation and Policy ⚖️
Google was accidentally leaking its Bard AI chats into public search results: conversations with the Google chatbot turned up in search results for common queries.
VC firms working with D.C. to "self-regulate" AI startup investing: it’s an attempt to correct for the "move fast and break things" philosophy that drove the rise of social media technologies, without considering second or third-order effects.
